Few things in life are for certain: death, taxes, and the Medicube Age-R Booster Pro inundating your algorithm. If you’ve found yourself on the beauty side of TikTok over the last year, chances are you’ve seen someone with glass-level skin gliding this flashlight-looking device over their cheeks, including A-listers like Kylie Jenner and Hailey Bieber.
Medicube’s Age-R Booster Pro is the number one best-selling beauty device in South Korea—the birthplace of the glass skin trend, which is defined by glowing, poreless skin that’s so radiant it looks reflective. And other than being in the hands of the biggest skinfluencers and lining the shelves of K-Beauty supply stores, the device is beloved by Cosmo’s beauty team for its ability to increase the efficacy of your skincare products while sculpting the face. So much so that it was recently crowned best skincare multi-tool in our annual Holy Grail Beauty Awards.
But what exactly does this device do? And is it worthy of its viral status? And a $220 price tag? Keep reading for Cosmo’s full review of the Medicube Age-R Booster Pro.
About the Medicube Age-R Booster Pro:
The Medicube Age-R Booster Pro is a multitasking tool designed with four different modes to work in tandem with your skincare routine: The booster setting has electroporation to increase product absorption (our personal favorite), microcurrent to firm and plump, derma shot uses EMS (electric muscle stimulation) to sculpt the face, and air shot mode has electric needles to tighten pores and improve texture (don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt).
Then each five-minute setting is automated with a corresponding vibration pattern and LED color—orange, green, red, and blue—to enhance the modality’s function. And if that’s all slightly confusing, here’s a breakdown of each mode.
Booster mode (with orange LED) utilizes electroporation, which allows your skincare products to penetrate deeper into your skin for amplified results, increased efficacy, and enhanced radiance.
Microcurrent mode (with green LED) is like a mini workout for your face. By using small electrical pulses, this setting stimulates facial muscles to lift and “tone,” helping to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
Derma-shot mode (with red LED) is similar to microcurrent except a bit stronger. It uses high electrical pulses that are designed to directly improve skin laxity and boost firmness to help snatch your jawline, cheekbones, etc.
Air shot mode (with blue LED) exfoliates and refines skin texture by sending out tiny electrical signals that create micro holes in pores. This can potentially help clear out pores (making them appear tighter and smoother) and jump-start collagen production for better skin elasticity.
How to use the Medicube Age-R Booster Pro:
With all of these settings and modes, the device sounds somewhat complicated to use, but it’s surprisingly simple to get the hang of. The power button turns on the device, while the “mode” button below it allows you to toggle through the four settings. Once you select your treatment, you can click the power button again to choose a vibration level between one and five (one being the mildest, while five is the most intense) to use alongside your treatment.
Then apply your favorite face serum or moisturizer before using the device on the booster, microcurrent, or derma-shot modes for the tool to glide smoothly across your face. Plus, the booster mode is literally made to enhance the absorption of products, so don’t be afraid to layer on that skincare routine to maximize the ingredients’ potency. When it comes to the air shot mode, though, that should be used on a freshly cleaned, bare face two or three times a week.
The beauty of this gadget is that you don’t have to cycle through all of the settings every single day to see results. You can curate your own unique routine based on your skin’s needs. Plus, you can use it morning or night, however it best fits into your existing regimen. If you’re not sure what you’d benefit from most, the Age-R Booster app will guide you to create a schedule to help you reach your goals.
Our Medicube Age-R Booster Pro reviews:
JASMINE HYMAN, ASSISTANT BEAUTY EDITOR
“This is one of the few TikTok sensations that’s actually worth the hype. I use it at night after layering on my serums and moisturizer to boost hydration, and in just five minutes, my skin looks more plump and luminous. By morning, I swear I look like I got a facial in my sleep—smoother, less puffy, and way more hydrated. All my skincare seems to do so much more after a few minutes of using the booster mode.
I also love that the device talks you through each treatment. Yes, the device actually speaks to you while you’re using it to tell you how much time has passed, so I know how far along I am in the five-minute treatment. And even on the days when I’m in a rush and only have a spare minute or two in my skincare routine, I use the booster mode to help massage my skincare into my face while sculpting, and it even works super well in a short amount of time.”
BETH GILLETTE, BEAUTY EDITOR
“I decided to finally try this after the many glowing reviews. If it will make my skin look anything like Hailey Bieber’s, I’ll try it. I thought an all-in-one tool, especially a device that says it can ‘increase production absorption,’ would be a total gimmick, but I actually love how easy it is to do so much with one device. It’s fantastic for travel in that way.
Most of all, though, I use it at my vanity in the morning before putting on makeup. The air shot helps my pores look clearer, while the booster and microcurrent modes hydrate my skin and make it look a bit tighter and smoother.”
MARY HONKUS, CONTRIBUTING BEAUTY EDITOR
“No device makes me look as sculpted as this one. The microcurrent setting just might be my favorite because of the lifted results—I spend extra time slowly swiping the tool along my jawline and cheekbones for a chiseled effect. I may not have the most naturally defined facial features, but after completing a microcurrent session, my face is Bella Hadid–level snatched. And following it with derma shot literally gives me definition akin to a lymphatic drainage facial.
And I use the air shot mode when I’m dealing with hormonal acne to decrease inflammation and shorten the lifespan of pesky zits. It’s a bit jarring to use at first; the little electrical shots aren’t painful, but they aren’t necessarily comfortable either. The feeling is like a high-frequency wand facialists use to zap acne. Plus, this setting is boosted with blue LED, which can also help potentially kill some acne-causing bacteria (a genius combo if you ask me).”
Final thoughts:
The Medicube Age-R Booster Pro hype is very very real, per our months of rigorous testing. It’s certainly an investment, but at the same time, at $220 it does the work of six different devices. And realistically, a lot of the single-feature skincare tools on the market cost more than this multitasker.
If you want your skincare routine to do the most and are looking to invest in a device, this tool for the booster mode alone is well worth its viral status. And with continued consistency, microcurrent, LED, the mini vibrations, and more work to smooth and lift the skin over time. So much so, that we’ve retired some of our other facial tools in lieu of this single wand. If you have a spare five minutes a day and want that glass-like skin, we firmly believe that there’s no better device on the market for a one-and-done treatment.
